Re-Cycle Program

In an ongoing effort to conserve metal and reduce waste, Re-Cycle Bike Shop is committed to keeping bikes out of the landfills. To keep old bikes from getting tossed in landfills, we accept bicycle donations in any condition.

Depending on the condition, these bikes will either be refurbished, used for parts, or taken to a metal recycling facility. Rest assured that we do not throw any of this away.

If you are interested in donating your bikes you can just leave them next to the sign on the fence in the parking lot.  We will take care of them from there. Thank you!

The Benefits of Recycling

Bicycle frames and forks are generally made of four different materials: steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber. When a bike is no longer wanted, it is best to recycle whatever parts and materials cannot be reused. This helps to preserve our environment by making the most of our natural resources without wasting energy on the mining and refining process.

Reduce

Recycling metal substantially reduces the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced in processing raw metal ores, while also using much less energy (92% less for aluminum and 56% less for steel) The overall amount of conserved energy from steel alone is enough to provide a year's worth of energy for 18 million homes.

Reuse

There is a limited amount of raw materials present on the planet. Eventually, mining and refining metal will no longer be sustainable. However, it is easy to recycle and reuse the metals that we already have in order to provide the materials, while reducing the negative effects of over-mining.

Recycle

Annually, the United States recycles 150 million metric tons of scrap, including 85 million tons of iron and steel and 5.5 million tons of aluminum. This recycled metal is then used in industrial manufacturing and is exported from the United States around the world. Who knows where in the world your bike might end up?
